The first event of this year’s programme is a coffee morning and Molesey history quiz at the Royal British Legion. Come along for a good chat and a chance to show off your local history knowledge. We’ll arrange the teams. The questions will be entertaining as well as informative!

David Garrick was the best-known British actor of the eighteenth century. He was also a
playwright, theatre manager, director, and many other things besides. Garrick was a leading
member of British intellectual and cultural circles in the period. He was also a significant
player in the artistic and architectural history of the River Thames. Garrick lived in his villa at Hampton with his gifted and intriguing Austrian wife, Eva Maria.
Together, the Garrick’s left an important heritage of local, national and international significance. This talk will consider the Garrick’s and their legacy.
Professor John Davis is Programme Director of Heritage Management at Historic Royal Palaces and Honorary Professor at Queen Mary, University of London.

Looking at the fascinating story of the famous grotto built at Oatlands in the 1760s to 70 for the Earl of Lincoln.
The estate at Oatlands, the house built high on a ridge above the site of the former Tudor Palace, and its famous owners are also covered in this fully illustrated talk. Nick is the Curator of Spelthorne Museum in Staines and Chairman of Sunbury and Shepperton Local History Society.
